2022-07-13 Dam Lake Association Update

We had great turnout at our first in-person AGM and BBQ (2022) since COVID. Forty-four cottages/homes were represented (>1/3 of the lake) and approximately 90 attended the BBQ. A special welcome to all the new members. Your enthusiasm and interest in the lake association is not going unnoticed. And thanks to all for your support of the association.

We have four items to share with you:

BOATING GUIDELINES - Grand Lake has asked we provide you with there boating guidelines.  They also want to emphasize their wake-related sports guideline that suggests to practice that sport at least 300M from any shoreline (that includes islands). They have done some testing with huge wakeboats and find that if you respect that 300M rule , most of the wake/wave is indeed dissipated by travelling that distance. Of note, such a rule on Dam Lake means wakeboarding and wakesurfing is unsuitable on our small lake. Something to keep in mind for the preservation of our lake for our children. Please keep our boating guidelines handy and in mind when you are out on the lake.

GRAND LAKE GOLF TOURNAMENT - For those interested, Grand Lake has resumed their annual golf tournament at Edelweiss. They would be happy to have Dam Lake teams or just individuals who I can pair up with others to make foursomes. Here is the application. Given this short notice, they will waive any late registration fees but they need to know by July 18th at the latest. People can do dinner only as well.

COTTAGE GUIDE IN THE WORKS - At the AGM and in response to an expressed desire from new cottagers and homeowners to know more about our lake and life on the lake, a committee was struck up to work on a Cottage Guide/Reference Book. This guide will include topics such as an overview of the lake, relevant bylaws, lake map, boating guidelines, cottage etiquette, fire prevention, articles of interest (i.e., common wildlife and plants), etc. Once finalized and approved, this guide will be made available to every cottage/home on the lake. If you are interested in helping draft/develop this guide and/or have questions/suggestions, please email admin@lacdamlake.com. Thanks
